It's no secret to anyone that I have a fascination with 80s pop culture. As such, this project began as a way to explore 3D animation assisted with Adobe Mixamo, and has resulted in a short spotlight that is a nod to, or rather, a wink at several references from the decade of decadence.
PRE-VISUALIZATION
Taking a look at Madonna’s “Material Girl” music video from 1985, there is a saturated monochrome palette of red being used to drive home the romance and drama. Madonna herself is referencing Marilyn Monroe’s iconic musical performance in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes from 1953.
So, some of my goals going into the project was to mimic those rich pinks and reds that melt together due to the blooming of the older cameras. In addition, compositions in both of these examples typically form a symmetrical frame around the centered diva, which emphasizes her status as the center of the universe.

The stage needs a star, so the first step was to model the pooch on the podium. I used basic primitives to build up most of the anatomy, wanting to maintain a graphic shape language.
