When tasked with a project to create five looping 3D animations, the only thought that came to my mind was music. This was a project that allowed me to dip back into an old passion of mine, that being sound design. The result is a collection of shorts that can be displayed in multiple ways and in limitless sequences, without the worry of an off-pitch player.
PRE-VISUALIZATION

Before I could dive into animating, my first step was to create the track that these pieces would animate to. If I could achieve seamless looping through the pieces of audio, then I could be sure of the pacing that the animation would need to have.
From previous experience, I knew that Soundtrap prioritized the process of making looping audios, which was perfect for this particular project. I composed each instrument track alongside each other to make sure they were harmonious, then exported each track individually so that I could sync the animation to the individual audios later.
Be Flat ♭
As this is a project that relies on the concept of modularity, each composition was created in a bento-box style of organization, allowing for a odd and playful re-interpration of common western instruments. To achieve the flat appearance, I pulled the focal length of the 3D camera to a drastic value, around 500mm. That, combined with some perspective trickery, allowed for the 3D to assume its stylized form.
